Iran Exports over 68,000 Tons of Aquatics in 4 Months: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The director general of Iran’s Aquatics Market Development, Processing and Quality Improvement Office said that 68,135 tons of aquatic animals, valued at $115 million, were exported from the country in the first four months of the current Persian calendar year (March 21-July 22).

Speaking to FARS news agency on Monday, Abbas Mokhtari said 31,000 tons of different species of fish, valued at $50 million, were exported from March 21 to July 22.

In this period, 2,208 tons of tuna fish, valued at $2 million, 142 tons of ornamental fish, valued at $167,000 and 1.451 million tons of different types of conserve, valued at $6 million, as well as one ton of caviar, valued at $631,000, were exported from the country, the director general added.

In addition, 68,135 tons of various species of aquatics, valued at over $114 million, were exported overseas from March 21 to July 22, showing a 32 and 35 percent hike in weight and value respectively compared to same period of last year.

Mokhtari further noted that 4.78 tons of aquatics, valued at over $12 million, were imported into the country from March 21 to July 22, registering a 272 and 148 percent growth in weight and value respectively as compared to last year’s corresponding period.
