Syrian Air Defenses Down Most Missiles in Israeli Aggression Near Damascus

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian air defenses intercepted and brought down a significant number of missiles fired by Israel in a fresh assault near Damascus late Sunday, amidst the regime’s escalating genocidal war on Gaza.

The attack, originating from the occupied Golan Heights, targeted specific locations near Damascus, as confirmed by Syria’s state news agency SANA, quoting a military source.

“At approximately 23:05 pm today, the Israeli enemy carried out an air attack from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights, targeting some points in the vicinity of Damascus,” the source said.

According to the source, Syria's air defense units swiftly responded to the Israeli aggression, successfully neutralizing the majority of incoming missiles. Limited material damage was reported from the assault.

This recent strike follows a previous December attack originating from the occupied Golan Heights, causing material losses in the Damascus vicinity. Another assault by Israel on Damascus International Airport a week earlier rendered the facility inoperative.

Israel's increased aggression towards Syria coincides with its bloody military campaign in Gaza, initiated on October 7 following an operation by Palestinian resistance groups. The ongoing conflict has resulted in nearly 18,000 Palestinian casualties, predominantly women and children.

Israel has also been one of the main supporters of terrorist groups that oppose the democratically-elected government of President Bashar al-Assad since the foreign-backed militancy erupted in Syria.
