Iran’s Sea Trade Up 8.5% in 8 Months: PMO Chief

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The chief executive of the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) announced an 8.5 percent growth in the country’s sea trade in the first eight months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 to November 22, 2023).

The organization has decided to invest $200 million for the development of the maritime fleet of the country in the Caspian Sea, Ali Akbar Safaei stated at the Conference of Sea-Based Development, which commemorated the National Port and Maritime Transport Day.

He added that giant steps have been taken in the administration of President Ebrahim Raisi for materializing most of the objectives of the organization in the ports and maritime sector.

The deputy roads minister said Iran’s sea trade in the non-oil shipment sector registered an 8.5 percent hike from March 21 to November 22, 2023, compared to last year’s corresponding period.

Some 50 million tons of commodities have been loaded and unloaded at ports of the country in two years, Safaei further stated.
