Spokesman Refutes UK’s Allegations against Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry dismissed the accusations leveled by the British foreign secretary against Iran and its regional role, saying the UK seeks to justify its belligerent actions in the Red Sea and draw attention away from the Israeli crimes in Gaza.

In a statement on Monday, Nasser Kanaani strongly condemned British Foreign Secretary David Cameron’s baseless accusations against Iran, calling them a futile attempt to justify the recent warmongering by the US and Britain in the Red Sea and to deflect the attention of the world public opinion from the Zionist regime’s atrocities in Gaza.

In an article in the Sunday Telegraph, Cameron said the recent joint military attacks by the UK and the US against Yemen "will have gone some way to degrade Houthi capabilities built up with Iranian backing."

Kanaani said those who opened the new millennium by waging bloody wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and, without learning from the past mistakes, are now an accomplice to the ongoing crimes by the Zionist regime against the oppressed people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, are too disgraced to demonize Iran and give misleading information about the country.

The spokesman stressed that the US-British attacks on Yemen are a violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of an independent country and are at odds with the UN Charter and principles of international law, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

Kanaani noted that the US-British attacks on Yemen will achieve nothing but encourage the Zionist regime to commit more war crimes and increase tension in the region.

He described the arbitrary actions of Britain and the US as a threat to regional as well as international peace and security and noted that their irresponsible remarks that are meant to shift the blame to others cannot help save the Zionist regime from its numerous crises and its responsibility for the crimes against the oppressed Palestinian nation.

“Therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that further tension can be prevented and peace and stability established in the West Asian region only through immediately stopping the attacks and war crimes by the aggressor Zionist regime in Gaza," he concluded.
