Iran Earns First-Ever Win at Women's World Handball Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s women’s handball team defeated Greenland 28-23 in the 2023 President’s Cup on Wednesday.

Two years ago, at Spain 2021, Iran finished 31st, after its game against China was registered 10-0 in their favor after China had to withdraw from the competition. This time around, at Denmark/Norway/Sweden 2023, Iran secured the same position, after a comeback and a strong 28-23 win against Greenland, celebrating its first-ever victory at the world flagship competition.

With the win, Iran secured the 31st place for the second time.

Greenland, on the other hand, returned to the World Championship after a 22-year hiatus and closed their Denmark/Norway/Sweden 2023 journey finishing on the last place, just like it did back in 2001, failing to seal its maiden win.

Iran lost to Poland, Germany, and Japan in the IHF Women's World Championship preliminary round and also was defeated against Chile, Congo and Kazakhstan in the President Cup.
